Live Your Dash Productively

In the past month I have attended the funeral services of two seasoned individuals who lived extremely remarkable lives.

Although both suffered with health challenges, their afflictions did not hinder the mission that each set out to accomplish. The representation at each service spoke volumes for the impact they made within their respective communities, and the respect so many had for both. In the field of education, both were icons, so to speak. In their churches, the religious leaders could not emphasize enough that the dedication shown by either was tremendous. And in spite of their professional commitments, each managed to be a strong force within their family units.

I have found myself lost in thought, more than usual, wondering if I am doing enough to make an impact; leave a lasting impression, or to help someone alter their decisions based on my actions, and the manner in which I live my own life. Not sure how I will manage, but in addition to maintaining a fast paced, demanding full time position, attending school 3 nights a week and all day on Saturdays, caring for my mom as needed, and beginning a part-time position within the next few weeks — I am involving myself with a grassroots, community based organization aimed at providing positive outlets for the youth in my community.

There is more to what I do, and I have also given serious thought to composing my life story. Who best to speak about me, and not be misunderstood — than me!

In closing, take a step outside of yourself to see how productive you are on a daily basis, what impact you make in the lives of those around you — and precisely how it is that you’re living your ‘dash!’

Matthew 5:16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.
